This allows plug-ins written to the standard to work on any application that supports the standard. It does, however, take advantage of OpenFX, an open standard for 2D visual effects or compositing plug-ins. Catalyst doesn’t come preloaded with all of the extras like Vegas. The Catalyst Suite was not designed to replace Vegas Pro. All the prep work you do in Prepare flows into Catalyst Edit Mark in/out points during playback, Create subclips to capture important sections of a longer file. Prepare allows you to batch copy, batch transcode to a wide variety of pro formats, precisely perform first-pass color correction, and more. That’s a background process so in the meantime you can start looking at the files, add metadata, and then you can import only what you want to edit. You can do a full volume, verified backup to an external disk, complete with all the folder structure, side card files, etc. Using Catalyst Prepare you can log clips, add metadata, import them into bins, apply quick color correction for proxies or dailies, and even begin rough editing. That’s why Sony Prepare is designed to work multiple color spaces and apply LUTs (Look Up Tables) to S-Log footage. Sony Pro cameras offer high dynamic range and color options. Catalyst Prepare also includes stretch modes for viewing anamorphic footage. Non-Linear editors that are supported include Sony Vegas Pro, AVID Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. The interface has four sections: Import, Organize, Edit, and Export. It is also touch enabled and supports gesture control. Prepare has a clean and simple interface that is intuitive.
